農業経済研究４０年を土台に、中国経済、とくに中国農業問題・中国食品問題を研究しています（定点観測地：山東省Ｂ市Ｚ県Ｓ鎮）。大学に入って最初に読んだ本は『マルクス農業問題』でした。
日中関係の構造的な変容が起きていますが、アプローチには中国研究はもちろんのこと、日本研究も同様に不可欠であるという視点から、両国の問題を農業、食品を仮説のキーワードに、実証的に取り組んでいます。
