Japanese Literature, VOL.53-4 pp.50-59(4) 50-59, Apr, 2004The religious pamphlet "Aozukin" has been often interpreted in terms of the dichotomy between the Zen sect and the Shingon sect. But nowhere in the text discourses about such a sectional difference can be found. On the contrary, the two sects are regarded as sharing the same goal because, though different in approach, both of them are seeking after spiritual truth and transcendental awakening beyond the logic of language. As is shown in this essay, such trans-sectionalism is the most characteristic feature of Critical Buddhism.
